Teatro Real Chorus Reaches Agreement, Avoids Strike

By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro Real’s chorus has announced that it has come to an agreement with Intermezzo to avoid a strike.

In a statement by the CGT, “After the mediation carried out yesterday at the Regional Institute of Mediation and Arbitration, an agreement has been reached between the representation of the workers and the Intermezzo association to call off the partial stoppages and the strike at the Teatro Real.”

The statement added, “Although we are not entirely satisfied with the agreement, it would have been better to advance in a new article 14 ratified with the commitment that in no case would it contemplate dismissals or sanctions. This advance means the paralysis of clause 14 until the negotiation of a new one and the preparation of a new company agreement for the Chorus of the Teatro Real.”

The Teatro Real opened its new season with a new production of Cheurbini’s “Medea” starring Maria Agresta and Saioa Hernández.
