Teatro Real Announces Two Cast Changes For ‘Die Walküre’

The Teatro Real de Madrid has announced two cast changes for its upcoming production of Wagner’s “Die Walküre.”

The company announced that Günther Groissböck will no longer sing the role of Hunding in this production with René Pape replacing him on performances scheduled for Feb. 12, 16, 21, 25 and 28, 2020. Groissböck will be performing “Der Rosenkavalier” in Berlin during this time, replacing Pape who was originally scheduled to take on the role of Baron Ochs.

It was also announced that Sarah Connolly also canceled her participation in the production as Fricka and that Daniela Sindram, who was already scheduled to sing three performances, will now sing the entire run.

“Die Walküre” opens on Feb. 12, 2020 and is also set to star Stuart Skelton, Ain Anger, Christopher Ventris, Tomasz Konieczny, James Rutherford, Adrianne Pieczonka, Elisabet Strid, Ricarda Merbeth, and Ingela Brimberg. Pablo Heras-Casado will conduct the production by Robert Carsen.
