Teatro Municipale di Piacenza to Stream ‘Aci, Galatea e Polifemo’

The Teatro Municipale di Piacenza will continue to perform opera via streaming.

The company announced that its new production of Handel’s “Aci, Galatea e Polifemo,” which was set to debut on Oct. 31, 2020, will be showcased on Opera Streaming, the first regional streaming service in Italy. The platform can be accessed on YouTube.

The production will also be recorded for a subsequent CD release.

The opera, which is is set to be the first modern day production, will star Raffaele Pe, Giuseppina Bridelli,, and Andrea Mastroni. Luca Guglielmi conducts La Lira di Orfeo.

On Oct. 28, Italy was forced to close all theaters and cinemas due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. As a result, numerous productions were cancelled. The Teatro Municipale di Piacenza is one of the many Italian theaters which is looking at ways to keep opera and culture going in this hard time. The Teatro Filarmonico and Donizetti Opera Festival have already announced streaming initiatives to offer live opera.
