Teatro Municipale di Piacenza Closes Due to Coronavirus

The Teatro Municipale di Piacenza has closed due to the Coronavirus.

The company announced that due to orders from the Minister of Health in cooperation with the President of the Emilia-Romagna region, all planned activity at the theater would be closed until March 1, 2020.

The company was set to present a new production of Donizetti’s “Lucrezia Borgia” on Feb. 26 and March 1, starring Carmela Remigio, Francesco Castoro, and Giuseppina Bridelli. Riccardo Frizza was set to conduct the production. As a result, the company will refund all ticketholders.

This is the latest theater to close in Italy following an outbreak of the Coronavirus. Among the companies that have closed are the Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Parma, and Teatro la Fenice.

According to a report by CNN, Italy is the location of Europe’s biggest outbreak of coronavirus to date. According to reports seven people have died and more than 280 have been infected. Northern Italy is under strict quarantine as the country attempts to control the outbreak.
