Teatro Mayor & Ópera de Colombia Team up for ‘Gianni Schicchi’

The Ópera de Colombia and the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo have teamed up for Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi,” the first operatic production in Colombia since the pandemic struck.

The production was filmed on Oct. 3 at the Teatro Mayor following all health regulations and will be streamed in November on the company’s Teatro Digital. The production is directed by Ramiro Gutiérrez Castro and conducted by Alejandro Roca.

Valeriano Lanchas sings the title role with Sofía Salazar as the Zita in her company debut. The cast also includes Sara Bermúdez as Lauretta, Christian Correa, Héctor Camacho, Laura Gómez, Laureano Quant, Juan David González, Hyalmar Mitrotti, Mónica Danilov, and Cristhian Carrillo.

The cast is rounded out by Erwin Barrera, Camilo Mendoza, and Carlos Cerchiaro.
