The Teatro Massimo di Palermo has appointed Marco Betta the new superintendent.

On Nov. 18, the board of directors of the Fondazione Teatro Massimo di Palermo voted unanimously to confirm Betta to the position.

Regarding the new position Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli said, “It is a new step, albeit in consistent continuity. Palermo will become the leading city of a cultural regeneration of the suburbs which will have the center in the Massimo.”

Marco Betta is a composer of opera, film scores, orchestral works, and chamber music. He was previously the artistic director of the Teatro Massimo between 1994 and 2002 and is currently a teacher at the Conservatoire of Palermo. He has composed such operas as “Bellini ultime luci,” “Sabaoth e Sammael,” “Il mistero del finto cantante,” and “Natura viva.”
