The Teatro La Fenice is set to inaugurate the 2021-22 season with Beethoven’s “Fidelio.”

The work, which was slated to be presented in 2020 to celebrate the composer’s 250th birthday, will now open in a new production by Joan Anton Rechi.

Myung-Whun Chung will conduct the opera with a cast that includes Ian Koziara as Florestan, Tilmann Rönnebeck as Rocco, and Tamara Wilson as Leonore. The cast will also include Bongani Justice Kubheka, Oliver Zwarg, Ekaterina Bakanova, and Leonardo Cortellazzi.

La Fenice will present the 1814 version in two acts with the Leonore Overture No. 3.

“Fidelio” will be presented on Nov. 20, 23, 25, 27, and 30 with the opening night performance streamed on Rai Radio3 and on Teatro La Fenice’s website, repubblica.it, lastampa.it, and huffingtonpost.it.
