Teatro la Fenice Closes Until March 1

The Teatro la Fencice has canceled all performances until March 1, 2020.

The theater issued a statement stating, “All performances are cencelled until Sunday 1st March in relation to the spread of the coronavirus according to the precautionary measure of the Veneto Region. We will bring you more as the situation develops.”

The Teatro la Fenice is the latest in a line of theaters in Northern Italy to close due to the coronavirus following the Teatro alla Scala and Teatro Regio di Parma, among many others.

The announcements come after Italy’s Health Minister Roberto Speranza announced “restrictions in the Northern Italy which included the closure of public buildings, limited transport, and the surveillance and quarantine of individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.”

Over 100 cases have been confirmed with 17 in Veneto, two in Emilia-Romagna and one case each in Lazio and Piedmont. The majority of the cases have been reported in Lombardy.
