Teatro Julio Mario Santo Domingo Streams ‘Faust’ Production from Peru
By Nicolas QuirogaTeatro Digital, the digital platform created by Bancolombia digital and the Bogotá, Colombia’s Teatro Julio Mario Santo Domingo, is now streaming production of Gounod’s “Faust” from Gran Teatro National of Perú.
The opera features Colombian tenor César Gutiérrez, in the role of Fausto; Argentine baritone Hernán Iturralde as Méphistophélès; and the Bulgarian-Spanish soprano Svetla Krasteva as Marguerite. Musical direction is led by Italian maestro Mateo Pagliari with stage direction by Venezuelan director Víctor García Sierra.
The production by the Ministerio de Cultura del Perú was inspired by Peruvian artist José Tola.
“In the world of painting, since the times of Picasso, Matisse, and Miroì, ballet and opera have offered an irresistible possibility to project the images and scenes from their canvases,” said Tola in a press release. And that’s how it is with this “Faust” by Goethe. Personally, it will be my own pact with the devil, to be able to achieve my aesthetic goals and to find Marguerite’s, passionate love.
