By Nicolas Quiroga

Stefanos Koroneos, artistic director of Teatro Grattacielo, and the company’s Board of Directors have announced three major artistic residencies with the company for 2021.

The new artists in residence include:

  • Malena Dayen (Argentina) – 2021 Resident Director
  • Sangminin Chae (South Korea) – 2021 Resident Video and Art Director
  • Jon de Gaetano (USA) – 2021 Resident Lighting Designer

The three artists worked with the organization on Teatro Grattacielo’s 2020 video production of “Fedora.”

“After the recent success of Fedora, our choice was clear. Through our partnerships with these three artists, we are looking forward to promoting the expansion and appreciation of lesser-known repertoire
and performance styles in the operatic tradition with an eye on diversity, innovation, technology, and multi-media arts,” Koroneos stated in a press release.

“I am passionate about bringing a new way of interpreting canonic repertoire using technology in a way that reveals meaning and beauty in the operas we love, ” Dayen added. “I am honored and thrilled with
the opportunity of working with Stefanos, Sangmin and Jon in Teatro Grattacielo’s 2021 productions. I also want to thank Teatro Grattacielo’s Board of Directors.”
