The Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Colombia will transmit a performance of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” via its Teatro Digital platform starting on April 16, 2020.

The showcase, which took place this past season, stars Colombian bass-baritone Valeriano Lanchas, who celebrated the 25th anniversary of his professional debut during this run of performances. Lanchas has become Colombia’s most celebrated opera star, performing internationally with such companies as the Metropolitan Opera, the Teatro de la Zarzuela, the Palm Bean Opera, the Palau de les Arts, and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, among others. He appears as Don Bartolo in this production.

The Rossini comedy also stars Pablo Martínez as Count Almaviva, Paola Leguizamón as Rosina, and Borja Quiza in the title role as Figaro. Other cast members include Sergio Martínez, Jacobo Ochoa, and Julio Escallón. The opera was conducted by Alejandro Roca with Pedro Salazar directing.

The opera can be streamed here and will be available for repeat viewings through April 23, 2020.
