On Dec. 4, Teatro Nazionale will debut “Acquaprofonda,” a new opera commisioned and co-produced by Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and Teatro Sociale di Como AsLiCo.

The work, which will also be performed under Dec. 7, 2021, is the first entry in the company’s “Oltre l’Opera” of the 2021-22 season.

“Acquaprofonda” is a work composed by Giovanni Sollima and is a fable about water pollution and urgency that has grown from the issue. The musical drama also speaks of respect for nature. The libretto is by Giancarlo De Cataldo, his first in the genre.

The production will star singers from the “Fabbrica” Young Artist Program with Luis Ernesto Doñas directing, Chiara La Ferlita working on set design, and Elisa Cobello as the costume designer. The cast will include Agnieszka Jadwiga Grochala (Serena), Irene Savignano (Balena/Madre), Rodrigo Ortiz (Guardiano), Alessandro Della Morte (Vecchio marinaio) e Arturo Espinosa (Padron Bu).

The production will then travel to the Teatro Sociale di Como for its first presentation on Dec. 16, 2021.
