Teatro dell’Opera di Roma to Present Verdi’s Requiem

By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma is set to present Verdi’s Requiem with Michele Mariotti conducting.

The performance is set to take place on Feb. 15, 2023, three days after the final performance of the company’s “Aida.” The work will star Elena Stikhina, Yulia Matochkina, Stefan Pop, and Giorgi Manoshvili.

In a statement, Mariotti said, “To do the Requiem after Aida is a privilege. The extraordinary score, which we all know, is very modern: in some ways, it appears to anticipate Straussian orchestral solutions and twentieth-century harmonies that already appear in the previous ‘Aida’ and which we will find again in ‘Otello,’ or in that theatrical and musical miracle that is ‘Falstaff.'”

The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma also announced that the dress rehearsal on Feb. 14 will be open to the public and will be part of the Viva Verdi series to save the composer’s Villa.
