Teatro de la Maestranza Announces Cast Change for ‘Madama Butterfly

The Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Spain has announced a cast change for Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.”

The company noted that Jorge de León will replace Amadi Lagha in the role of Pinkerton on Oct. 3, 6, and 9, 2021.

De León is a well-known Spanish tenor who has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Arena di Verona, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Staatsoper Hamburg, and Wiener Staatsoper.

The tenor will join a cast that includes Ermonela Jaho as Cio-Cio San, Damián del Castillo as Sharpless, and Gemma Coma-Alabert as Suzuki. Alain Guingal conducts the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla.

A second cast will perform on Oct. 7, 2021 starring Carmen Solís as Butterfly, Enrique Ferrer, Gerardo Bullón, and Cristina Faus.
