Teatro de la Maestranza Announces Cast Change for ‘Carmen’
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro de la Maestranza has announced a replacement for Elīna Garanča.
The company said that Maria Kataeva will sing the title role of “Carmen” for performances on June 13, 15, and 17, 2025.
Kataeva is a rising star who has performed at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Bolshoi Theater Moscow, the Dresden Semperoper, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Opéra Bastille Paris, the Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, the Opera Vlaanderen Antwerpen/Gent, and the Edmonton Opera.
Karel Mark Chichon and Salvador Vázquez conduct the staging by Emilio Sagi. Kateva will join a cast that includes Piero Pretti, Gianfaldoni, and Dlaibor Jenis. The second cast will be led by Gabriela Flores, Alejandro del Cerro, María Miró, and Baadral Chuluunbaatar.
