The Teatro Comunale di Bologna has announced that a member of the women’s chorus has tested positive for COVID-19.

As a result, the company began performing its current run of “Madama Butterfly” without a women’s chorus. The superintendent Fulvio Macciardi noted that the company is still performing because he believes the theater is still a safe place and is being extremely controlled and monitored.

Macciardi added that as soon as the case was found, it was reported to the ASL and has followed all regulations according to the health department. The superintendent also said that it is offering tests in order to regulate the situation.

“Madama Butterfly” opened on Oct. 18 and runs through Oct. 21 with a cast that stars Karah Son, Svetlana Kasyan, Angelo Villari, Raffaele Abete, Dario Solari, and Gustavo Castillo.
