On Oct. 5, 2024, the Teatro alla Scala will stream “Cesti’s “L’Orontea” on La Scala TV.

The opera will showcase a staging by Robert Carsen conducted by Giovanni Antonini.

Stéphanie d’Oustrac, Mirco Palazzi, Francesca Pia Vitale, Hugh Cutting, Luca Tittoto, Sara Blanch, Marianna Pizzolato, Carlo Vistoli, and Maria Nazarova star.

The Teatro alla Scala production is part of a project aimed at rediscovering the Italian origins of opera and the limitless riches of the Baroque as it developed in Naples, Rome, and Venice.

Recently the company premiered productions of “La Calisto” by Francesco Cavalli and “Li zite ’ngalera” by Leonardo Vinci as part of the project.

“L’Orontea” premiered in Innsbruck in 1656 and became one of the most frequently performed operas of that century before falling into undeserved oblivion. At the Piccola Scala in 1961, the opera was revived with mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza.

The stream will be available on demand until Oct. 12, 2024.
