The Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli are reporting new COVID-19 cases.

According to the AP News, La Scala has seen 21 musicians test positive since the closing of the theater. Among those testing positive, according to the theater’s spokesperson, were chorus members, string and wind players as well as star tenor Francesco Meli.

The Teatro San Carlo also reported 12 positive cases within the management, orchestra, chorus, and dance troupe.

Throughout the past days, Italy has seen a surge in Coronavirus cases which forced the country to shut down cinemas and theaters until Nov. 24. The new measures throw into doubt the famed opening night gala on Dec. 7 at the Teatro alla Scala. The company was set to open with a new production of “Lucia di Lammermoor” starring Lisette Oropesa and Juan Diego Florez.
