Teatro alla Scala Orchestra Cancels Autumn Season

By Francisco Salazar

The Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala has canceled all autumn concerts.

The news comes days after the Teatro alla Scala was forced to cancel the highly anticipated opening night production of “Lucia di Lammermoor” on Dec. 7. The opera will be replaced by a gala concert that will be streamed on Rai.

As a result, the orchestra announced that its originally planned opening concert on Dec. 14 will now be postponed until February and all autumn tickets will be reimbursed.

The decision was made after a meeting on Nov. 9 following concerns over the second wave of COVID-19. The Teatro alla Scala was forced to cancel all productions for the month of November on Oct. 28 and was originally scheduled to return on Nov. 24.

The region of Lombardy is currently a red zone as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the Italian region.
