Teatro alla Scala Extends Riccardo Chailly’s Contract

The Teatro alla Scala has extended Riccardo Chailly’s contract until 2025.

Superintendent Dominique Meyer announced the news that the board approved the extension.

Chailly made his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in 1978 and has since been a regular with the company. As Music Director he has conducted six opening night performances a number of new productions. He recently conducted a new production of “Salome” and is currently preparing Kurt Weill’s “Die sieben Todsünden” and “Mahagonny Songspiel.”

The Teatro alla Scala is currently shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic but is currently performing virtual concerts. Next month the company is set to present a concert starring Zubin Mehta and one starring Aleksandra Kurzak.
