Teatro alla Scala Cancels Performance of ‘Macbeth’ Due to Strike

The Teatro alla Scala has canceled its June 21 performance of Verdi’s “Macbeth.”

The company said, “We are sorry to announce that a strike was declared for Wednesday 21 June, hindering the performance of ‘Macbeth’ on that night.”

The performance was set to star Luca Salsi, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Fabio Sartori, and Jongmin Park.

Semenchuk and Salsi are still set to perform the special presentation on June 15 and 17.

“Macbeth” runs through July 8 with Anna Netrebko performing the role of Lady Macbeth alongside Salsi starting June 26. The opera will also star Amartuvshin Enkhbat and Giorgio Berrugi beginning June 29 alongside Netrebko. Giampaolo Bisanti conducts the production by Davide Livermore which opens the 2021-22 season.
