Teatro alla Scala Announces New Cast Change for ‘Médée’

The Teatro alla Scala has announced a cast change for its Jan. 20 performance of “Médée.”

The company said that Marina Rebeka will not sing in the performance due to illness. As a result, Maria Pia Piscitelli will take over the title role.

Piscitelli has performed at the Staatsoper Hamburg, San Francisco Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Deustche Oper Berlin, Teatro Colon, Teatro Petruzzelli, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro de la Plata, Palm Beach Opera, Teatro San Carlo, and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

She joins a cast that includes Stanislas de Barbeyrac, Nahuel Di Pierro, Martina Russomanno, Ambroisine Bré, and Greta Doveri, and Mara Gaudenzi. Michele Gamba conducts the production by Damiano Michieletto.
