By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro alla Scala has announced a cast change for its production of Verdi’s “Don Carlo.”

The company said, “We inform you that Ain Anger (The Grand Inquisitor), indisposed during the rehearsals, has to withdraw from the production of ‘Don Carlo’ due to his prolonged convalescence.”

It added, “La Scala thanks Jongmin Park, already involved in the role of the Friar and who had played the role of the Grand Inquisitor in place of his indisposed colleague during the rehearsals, for having agreed to play both the role of the Friar and of the Grand Inquisitor on December 7 and in the following performances. The part of The Monk (Charles the Fifth) in act IV will be entrusted to Huanhong Li.”

“Don Carlo” opens on Dec. 7 and will star Anna Netrebko, Francesco Meli, Luca Salsi, Elina Garanca, and Michele Pertusi. Riccardo Chailly conducts the production by Lluis Pasqual.
