Teatro alla Scala Announces Cast Change for ‘Don Carlo’

The Teatro alla Scala has announced a cast change for its production of “Don Carlo.”

The company noted that Michele Pertusi will replace René Pape in the role of Filippo II.

Pertusi recently sang Don Carlo in Modena and Piacenza. He also opened the Teatro San Carlo’s 2022-23 season in a new production of the opera. This season he is set to perform at the New National Theatre Tokyo, Staatsoper Hamburg, La Monnaie, Teatro San Carlo, and Teatro La Fenice.

Pertusi is set to join a cast that includes Anna Netrebko, Francesco Meli, Luca Salsi, Elīna Garanča, and Ain Anger. Riccardo Chailly conducts the production by Lluís Pasqual.

“Don Carlo” opens on Dec. 7, 2023.
