Teatro alla Scala Announces Cast Change in ‘Andrea Chénier’

The Teatro alla Scala has announced a cast change for its production of “Andrea Chénier” on May 6, 2023.

The company said that Luca Salsi will sing the role of Carlo Gerard, replacing Ambrogio Maestri who is ill.

Salsi also replaced Maestri in the opening performance on May 3. The baritone originated the Mario Martone production when it opened the 2017-18 Teatro alla Scala season alongside Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov. He has also performed the role of Gerard at the Wiener Staatsoper and Bayerische Staatsoper, among other theaters.

Salsi will join a cast that includes Eyvazov and Sonya Yoncheva. Marco Armiliato conducts the production.

Maestri returns for the  May 11 and 16 performances.
