The Teatro alla Scala has announced a cast change for its production of “Simon Boccanegra” on Feb. 21 and 24, 2024.

The company said that “due to illness, Anita Hartig has to withdraw from the performances of ‘Simon Boccanegra’ on 21 and 24 February. The Theater thanks Irina Lungu who will replace her in the role of Amelia.”

Lungu is a well-known soprano who has performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, and the Wiener Staatsoper. She is known for her bel canto repertoire and this season she is set to perform at the Teatro Trieste Verdi and Teatro Massimo di Palermo.

Lungu joins a cast that includes Luca Salsi, Ain Anger, Roberto de Candia, and Matteo Lippi.
