Teatro alla Scala Announces Cast Change for ‘Macbeth’

The Teatro alla Scala has announced a cast change for the final performance of “Macbeth.”

The company noted that Ewa Plonka will take over the Dec. 29 performance which was originally expected to be sung by Elena Guseva.

The soprano will also be covering for Anna Netrebko throughout the run.

Plonka has performed at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Oper Frankfurt, Dallas Opera, and Prague National Opera. She has also performed at the Polish National Opera and is set to make debuts at the Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, La Monnaie, and Théâtre Capitole de Toulouse.

Plonka joins a cast that includes Luca Salsi, Francesco Meli, Ildar Abdrazakov, and Iván Ayon Rivas, Riccardo Chailly conducts the new production, which will be directed by Davide Livermore.
