By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro alla Scala has announced a cast change for its final performance of “I Vespri Siciliani” on Feb. 21.

The company said that Marina Rebeka will sing in the final performance replacing Angela Meade who is ill.

Meade also took to social media and said, “it is with a heavy heart that I must announce that I have had to withdraw from tonight’s final performance of ‘I Vespri Siciliani’ at La Scala due to a terrible flu/bronchitis. I was so hopeful that I would be recovered enough to be able to sing tonight, but it ended up not being possible. Thank you to my dear colleague Marina Rebeka for agreeing to step in for me.”

Rebeka will join a cast that includes Piero Pretti, Roman Burdenko, and Simon Lim. Fabio Luisi conducts.
