Teatro alla Scala Announces Another Cast Change for ‘La Gioconda’

The Teatro alla Scala has announced a cast change for its production of Ponchielli’s “La Gioconda.”

The company noted via social media, “due to a sudden illness tenor Fabio Sartori has to withdraw from La Gioconda’s production. La Scala thanks Stefano La Colla to accepted on short notice to take the role of Enzo Grimaldi.”

La Colla is an Italian tenor who has performed at the Arena di Verona, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Bayersiche Staatsoper, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, and Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.

The tenor joins a cast that includes Saioa Hernández, Irina Churilova, Daniela Barcellona, Erwin Schrott, Anna Maria Chiuri, and Roberto Frontali. Frédéric Chaslin conducts the new production by Davide Livermore.

“La Gioconda” is set to open on June 7 and runs through June 25, 2022.
