Tamara Wilson Cancels Final ‘Aida’

By Francisco Salazar

Tamara Wilson has canceled her final “Aida” performance at the Arena Di Verona

The soprano announced via social media that due to illness she would not be able to perform the final performance, which was scheduled to be conducted by Placido Domingo.

Wilson wrote, “I regret that I will be unable to perform Aida with Maestro Domingo tonight, celebrating his 50th anniversary, especially after such a wonderful rehearsal yesterday. Last night, I became ill.”

Wilson is coming off a two-performance run of “Aida” at the Arena di Verona where she managed to get producers to lighten the makeup for the title role. Since being outspoken regarding the makeup used in “Aida,” the soprano announced that she would be singing the title role in three more performances and would then retire the role.

The soprano is set to perform at the Song Source Festival and will sing the title role of ‘Turandot” at the Canadian Opera Company this season.
