Tallis Scholars Set To Perform In NYC During Holiday Season

The Tallis Scholars are set to perform at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in New York on Dec. 14, 2019.

The concert, entitled “Sacred Interpretations” will be showcased as part of Miller Theatre’s “Early Music” series. It will feature a wide range of musical selections including “Salve Regina,” “Ave Maria,” Miserere,” “O sacrum convivium,” and the “Magnificat.”

The composers featured include Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla, Francis Poulenc, William Cornysh, Gregorio Allegri, Giovanni Croce, Thomas Tallis, Olivier Messiaen, William Byrd, and Tomás Luis de Victoria.

The performance will be directed by Peter Phillips, who founded the group in 1973. The Tallis Scholars usually perform in 70 concerts per year around the globe and have made such recordings as “Missa Pange” or “Milla La sol fa re mi.” Their ensemble was nominated for the Grammy Award in 2001, 2009, and 2010.
