Talise Trevigne, Aviva Fortunata & David Pomeroy Headline Calgary Opera’s 2020-21 Season

The Calgary Opera has announced its 2020-21 season, which will include four opera productions.

Beethoven’s “Fidelio” opens the season with Tracy Cantin as Leonore, David Pomeroy as Florestan, Melody Courage as Marzelline, Gregory Dahl as Don Pizarro, and Owen McCausland as Jaquino. Michael Cavanagh directs the production and Bramwell Tovey conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 21, 25 & 27, 2020

Omer Ben Seadia directs a production of Lehar’s “The Merry Widow” with Aviva Fortunata as Hannah Glawari and Colin Ainsworth as Camille de Rosillon. Tania Miller conducts the operetta, which also stars Richard Suart, Jame Westman, and Jacqueline Woodley.

Performance Dates: Jan. 30, Feb. 3 & 5, 2021

Verdi’s “La Traviata” closes out the season with Talise Trevigne as Violetta and Andrew Haji as Alfredo. Gordon Gerrard conducts one of Verdi’s most popular scores.

Performance Dates: April 17, 21 & 23, 2021

Christmas at the Opera will feature “Amahl and the Night Visitors” by Menotti and seasonal concert selections.

Performance Dates: Dec. 10-13, 2020

The season will also include Opera Brunches and Masterclasses.
