By David Salazar

Talea Ensemble has unveiled its 2023-24 season, the 15th in the company’s history.

We celebrate our 15th Anniversary Season by both looking back at works formative to the ensemble and looking forward to new collaborations with the next generation of composers,” said Executive Director Adrian Morejon in an official press statement issued by the company. “The significance of words and the voice in music is a central theme to our season. We are also enthusiastic about the continued growth of our artist development initiatives, such as the Emerging Composers Commission, the Recording Workshop, and this year’s inaugural Ambassadors initiative.”

Here is a rundown of the classical vocal performances on offer.

First up is “The Other Spring – Music of Haas & Hersh,” which features the U.S. premiere of Hersch’s “one step to the next, worlds ending.” The showcase will feature soprano Ah Young Hong.

Performance Date: Oct. 29, 2023

Next up is Alec Hall’s new opera “The Life to Come.” The work is based on E.M. Forster’s short story from 1922. There will be several workshop days including a formal presentation at the DiMenna Center for Classical Musci’s Mary Flagler Cary Hall. The full opera is set to premiere in 2024-25.

Performance Date: Nov. 18 & 19, 2023 (workshops)

In the new year, the company will feature Suzanne Farrin’s new opera “Macabea” with six singers, chamber ensemble, and electronics. The company will workshop segments before delivering a public showcase.

Performance Date: Feb. 6 & 8, 2024

That will be followed up by a partnership with Catapult Opera featuring a production of Nadia Bolanger’s “La Ville Morte” at NYU Skirball Center.

Performance Date: April 19-21, 2024
