Takesha Meshé Kizart-Thomas to Perform Motherhood-themed Recital ‘Maternità’

By Chris Ruel

Anima Mundi Productions is set to present a livestream of “Maternità,” a recital featuring soprano Takesha Meshé Kizart-Thomas and concert pianist Artina McCain. The broadcast is slated for Mar. 20, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. PT/6:00 p.m. ET.

“Maternità” explores the theme of motherhood through operatic heroines in works by Puccini, Bellini, Strauss, Verdi, and Wagner. New compositions by Jasmine Barnes, Regina Harris Baiocchi, Barbara Assiginaak, and Carolina Calvache spotlight the work of Black, First Nations/Indigenous, and Latina female composers. Anima Mundi commissioned the works.

Takesha Meshé Kizart-Thomas had her Met Opera debut in 2010 as Musetta and has sung leading roles with Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oper Frankfurt, Oper Köln, Opera Australia, and Opera North-UK. The award-winning soprano has appeared with Yo-Yo Ma and Wynton Marsalis and headlined international recording projects.

Anima Mundi Productions is an Oregon-based nonprofit that produces and presents concerts and operatic works, addressing urgent social themes through new music. Co-presenting the live stream are Seattle Opera and Portland State University, in collaboration with the Northwest African American Museum and Opera in the Park Portland.

Audiences can watch the performance via Anima Mundis Productions’ official website.
