‘Tabula Rasa’ Team To Showcase ‘Hello Gorgeous’ Opera Concerts

By David Salazar

Update: The next scheduled performance in this series will be on Sunday, March 11, 2018.

A few months ago, The Tank NYC started a Kickstarter campaign to obtain funds for the world premiere of the opera “Tabula Rasa,” a work by composer Felix Jarrar and librettist Brittany Goodwin.

The campaign managed to raise over $1,000, but because of the crowdfunding website’s rules, the team was unable to retain any of the funds gathered.

But they have not given up and are now committed to putting together a series of concerts to find the needed investment to bring the project to life. In addition to continuing the campaign via a tax-deductible medium, they are also showcasing their talent.

Enter the “Hello Gorgeous” concert series, the first of which takes place on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 at 8 p.m. (those interested in attending should head over to the Facebook event page and RSVP for directions). “Hello Gorgeous,” is a fundraising concert for the opera “Tabula Rasa by Felix Jarrar and Brittany Goodwin. It features the cast members of the “Tabula Rasa,” including sopranos Sara Lin Yoder, Rebecca Richardson, Eugenia Forteza, and Petra Jarrar in a program that consists of art song, Jarrar’s original compositions, and selections from Jarrar and Goodwin’s Songs of the “Soul Beams” and “Tabula Rasa.” Goodwin will also be on hand for a brief discussion of the work after the concert.

“Director/librettist Brittany Goodwin has helped me assemble a cast for ‘Tabula Rasa’ that I feel is nothing short of excellent,” Jarrar told OperaWire. “Brittany’s libretto for the work is very beautiful and poetic, and I wanted the amazing qualities of my collaborators to be put on display for our donors at these fundraising concerts.”

“Tabula Rasa” is a jazz-opera that aims to explore the life and loves of Kiki de Montparnasse.
