Svetlana Aksenova, Christopher Maltman & Dorothea Herbert Highlight Theater An Der Wien Reopening Night

After a six-month hiatus, the Theater an der Wien – Das Opernhaus will open its doors to the public on Sep. 16 2020  with a new production of Leoncavallo’s opera “Zazà.”

The performance will star Svetlana Aksenova, Christopher Maltman, Dorothea Herbert, Nikolai Schukoff, Enkelejda Shkosa, Juliette Mars, Tobias Greenhalgh, Paul Schweinester, Dumitru Mădăraşăn, Ivan Zinoviev, Johannes Bamberger, Livia Gallenga, Vittoria Antonuzzo, Ena Topcibasic, Liliya Namisnyk, and Patrick Maria Kühn. The performance will also feature the Arnold Schoenberg Chor.

Stefan Soltész will conduct the production by Christof Loy.

The Theater an der Wien – Das Opernhaus has adopted very strict COVID-19 guidelines both for the artists and the audiences. Artists will get COVID-19 tests twice a week. The whole production team has been divided into three groups – red, yellow and green, with the very strict contact rules between the groups.

Audiences must maintain a social distance of at least one meter at all times and wear face masks, except when seated for the performance. The opera house has stated that it has enabled a modern ventilation system, which provides effective and safe ventilation in the auditorium. Both the ventilation frequency and the air exchange rate have been increased. Thirty-six cubic meters of air will be filtered during every hour for each visitor. In addition, the special boost ventilation system has been activated in the rear spectator area, which enables the filtering of additional 45 cubic meters of air per hour per person.

The production of “Zazà” is set to run until Sep. 27, 2020.
