Susan Bullock, Gerald Finley, Michael Mayes, Gweneth Ann Rand Headline London Sinfonietta’s 2021-22 Season

The London Sinfonietta has announced its 2021-22 season.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on opera and vocal performances.

First up will be a performance of “Bluebeard’s Castle” in a new chamber orchestration. The opera will star Susan Bullock, Gerald Finley, Michael Mayes, and Gweneth Ann Rand sharing the lead roles. The opera will be directed by Daisy Evans and conducted by Stephen Higgins.

Performance Dates:  Nov. 4-14, 2021

Soprano Ella Taylor will lead a performance of Alice Jane Turner’s “Tell me when you are home” in a concert also including Luke Lewis’ “The Echoes Return Slow. Sian Edwards conducts while Lucy Bailey directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 6, 2022

Helena Rasker and Michael Schiefel will solo in a performance of “Night Shift,” which is a new take on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Cathy Milliken. The performance will also feature an amateur choir. Jonathan Stockhammer conducts.

Performance Date: March 10, 2022 

Soprano Claire Booth will lead a performance of Claude Vivier’s “Lonely Child.” The showcase will also include the world premiere of a work by Nicole Lizée.

Performance Date: May 6, 2022

Audiences will get a chance to see Tom Coult and Alice Birth’s “Violet” which tells the story of a community that runs on a strict schedule dictated by a village clock that is controlled by men in power.

Performance Dates: June 3 – 23, 2022
