Stephanie Blythe & Leon Botstein Headline Fisher Center at Bard’s World Opera Day Celebration

By David Salazar

Fisher Center at Bard will celebrate World Opera Day on Oct. 25 with a conversation between conductor Leon Botstein and mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe.

The two artists will discuss the world of opera today with a focus on its adaptation to current challenges and circumstances.

“Opera is immune to technological reproduction and is a unique amalgam of the visual language and sound,” Botstein stated in a press release. “It is perhaps the most resilient, alluring, and enduring genre of the human imagination.”

Blythe recently took over the directorship of the Vocal Arts Program at Bard College.

The conversation is the latest offering on the Fisher Center’s streaming platform UPSTREAMING. The platform has already presented several unique opera productions including “Iris,” “Das Wunder der Heliane,” “Euryanthe,” and “The Wreckers,” among others.
