Stéphane Degout, Sally Matthews, Olga Peretyatko & Enea Scala Lead La Monnaie ‘s 2022-23 Season

La Monnaie de Munt in Brussels has announced its 2022-23 season featuring eight productions and a number of concerts.

Here is a look at the operatic and vocal performances.

Opera

Nathalie Stutzmann conducts David Marton’s production of Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” with Dmitry Golovnin, Laurent Naouri, Jacques Imbrailo, Anne Sofie Von Otter, Anna Nechaeva, and Charlotte Hellekant.

Performance Date: Sept. 11-29, 2022

Alain Altinoglu conducts “Der Rosenkavalier” with Damiano Michieletto. Sally Matthews, Julia Kleiter, Matthew Rose, Martin Winkler, Michele Losier, Julie Boulianne, Dietrich Henschel, Elena Sancho-Pereg, and Ilse Eerens star.

Performance Date: Oct. 28-Nov. 18, 2022

Philippe Boesmans’ “On purge bébé” will be conducted Bassem Akikid and directed by Richard Brunel. Stéphane Degout, Jodie Devos, Julien Behr, Sophie Pondjiclish, Jérôme Varnier, and Tibor Ockenfels.

Performance Dates: Dec. 13-27, 2022

Alain Altinoglu conducts Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” directed by Laurent Pelly. The cast will include Stéphane Degout, Yuriy Yurchuk, Sally Matthews, Natalia Tanasii, Bernadetta Gradias, Lilly Jørstad, Bogdan Volkov, Kyungho Kim, and Nicolas Courjal.

Performance Dates: Jan. 29-Feb. 14, 2023

Howard Moody and Anna Moody bring “Solar” to the stage with Benoit de Leersnyder. The work will star Members of the MM Academy – MM Soloists & Laureates including Logan Lopez Gonzalez, Michael J. Scott, Emma Posman, and Kris Belligh. 

Performance Dates: March 14-19, 2023

Donizetti’s “Bastarda” will be conducted by Francesco Lanzillotta with Olivier Fredj directing. Myrto Paptanasiu, Francesca Sassu, Salome Jicia, Enea Scala, Luca Tittoto, Rafaella Lupinacci, Valentina Mastrangelo, Lenneke Ruiten, Sergey Romanovsky, Vittorio Prato, David Hansen, and Gavan Ring star.

Performance Dates: March 21-April 16, 2023

Saint-Saëns’ “Henry VIII” will be conducted by Alain Altinoglu with Olivier Py directing. Lionel Lhote, Ed Lyon, Vincent Le Texier, Enguerrand de Hys, Werner Van Mechelen, Jérôme Varnier, Marie-Adeline Henry, Nora Gubisch, and Ludivine Gombert star.

Performance Dates: May 11-27, 2023

Shostakovich’s “The Nose” will be conducted by Gergely Madaras and Alex Olle. Scott Hendrick, Nicky Spence, Alexander Roslavets, Giselle Allen, Anton Rositskiy, Alexander Kravets, and Natascha Petrinsky star.

Performance Dates: June 20-July 2, 2023

Concerts

Alain Altinoglu conducts Sally Matthews in Strauss’ “Four Last Songs.” The concert also features music by Franck and Harold Noben. 

Performance Date: Sept. 25, 2022

Kazushi Ono conducts a concert with Elsa Dreisig. The concert features music by Strauss, Massenet, and Prokofiev.

Performance Date: Oct. 9, 2022

Sir Antonio Pappano conducts Schubert’s “Winterreise” in an orchestra version with Ian Bostridge.

Performance Date: Dec. 19, 2022

La Monnaie Children’s and Youth Chorus joins soloists Maxime Melnik and Margaux de Valensar for a Christmas Concert. Benoît Giaux conducts.

Performance Date: Dec. 22, 2022

Recitals

Stéphane Degout and mezzo-soprano Marielou Jacquard will be accompanied by pianist Alain Planès. Actor Roger Germser will narrate Brahms’ Die schöne Magelone.

Soprano Tineke Van Ingelgem, baritone Werner Van Mechelen and pianist Sylvie Decramer perform “Homage to César Franck'” with Franck’s songs and duets as well as music by Faure, Duparc, ad Massenet.

Performance Dates: Nov. 9, 2022

Soprano and harpist Sandrine Piau performs alongside Ensemble Contraste in music by Strauss, Ravel, Zemlinsky, Brahms, Bloch, Chausson, and Spohr.

Performance Date: Feb. 8, 2023

Olga Peretyatko performs music by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. She will be accompanied by the pianist Matthias Samuil.

Performance Date: May 15, 2023

The musicians of the Ensemble Amarillis and the mezzo-soprano Stéphanie d’Oustrac perform music by Henry Purcell, André Campra, André Cardinal Destouches and George Frideric Handel, among others.

Performance Date: June 24, 2023
