Stefan Veselka Appointed General Music Director and Chief Conductor of Regensburg Philharmonic

Theater Regensburg has announced the appointment of Stefan Veselka as General Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Regensburg Philharmonic.

Veselka, a Norwegian artist of Czech descent, has become known as one of his generation’s most accomplished pianists and conductors. He studied piano at the “Mozarteum” in Salzburg and later conducted operas and concerts in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Stuttgart, among other cities. As an opera conductor, he has a broad repertoire, having paced “Don Giovanni,” “Tosca,” “Lohengrin,” “Aida,” and “Manon,” to name a few.

Veselka has collaborated with prestigious orchestras and conductors, winning national and international piano competitions. His recordings include works by Beethoven, Prokofiev, Debussy, Lutoslawski, Strauss, Webern, and Valen to critical acclaim.

The maestro has also taught orchestral conducting as a professor at the University of the Arts in Bremen since 2021. He recently debuted at the Norwegian national opera in Oslo in the 2022 – 23 season.

Veselka served as principal conductor of the Münster Symphony Orchestra from 2014 to 2021.
