State Opera South Australia announced that it will tour “The Frog Prince” to primary schools throughout the summer.

The show follows the journey of a spoiled princess who encounters a sassy frog, leading to an unlikely friendship and a fantastical adventure. Lessons about friendship and environmental stewardship are interwoven into the contemporary storyline. The production features a range of popular operatic arias from composers such as Mozart, Rossini, and Bizet, reimagined for a fun and accessible experience for children.

Headlining the opera is soprano Lucy Stoddart as Princess Juniper May. She is joined by tenors Callum McGing and James Nicholson, making their debut as lead roles.

“The Frog Prince is a perfect vehicle to foster opera in young people’s vernacular. Firstly, the vibrancy of the performance is a wonderful platform to introduce kids to opera, but the show is also a means for our young artists and performers to build and develop their career,” said State Opera Executive Director, Mark Taylor, in an official press statement.

“The Frog Prince” is suitable for children aged 12 and under, with the tour scheduled to begin in Term 4, 2023.
