Staatstheater Cottbus to Hold Concert for Israel

By Francisco Salazar

The Staatsatheater Cottbus has announced that it will hold a concert on Oct. 31, 2023, in solidarity with Israel.

In a statement, the theater said, “We want to break the deafening silence into which we threaten to fall in the face of terror and its consequences. We respond to the widespread speechlessness with music. We think of the people who have lost loved ones or whose loved ones were injured. We feel for the people who fear for the lives of their loved ones taken hostage by Hamas. We stand with the Jews in Germany against any form of anti-Semitism.”

The concert will feature music by Mozart, Bloch, and Ravel, among others. It will also feature soloists Tehila Nini Goldstein, Mirjam Widmann, Dirk Kleinke, Andreas Jäpel, Teodor Bratina, and Jascha Nemtsov. Christian Möbius conducts.

The concert will replace the originally scheduled performance of “La Bohème” which has been canceled.
