Berlin’s Staatsoper Unter Den Linden has released a statement regarding Music Director Daniel Barenboim’s medical condition.

The company said, “In a personal message on his social media yesterday, Daniel Barenboim announced that for health reasons he will withdraw from some of his performing activities, especially conducting engagements, for the coming months. Artistic director Matthias Schulz, managing director Ronny Unganz and all the staff wish Daniel Barenboim a speedy recovery!”

The company added, “in October (24 and 25 October) at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden this concerns the conducting of the I subscription concert of the Staatskapelle Berlin with pianist Alexandre Kantorow as soloist. The musical direction of these two concerts will be taken over by Lorenzo Viotti, for which we are very grateful. The modified programme includes Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in F-sharp minor, op. 1, and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10 in E minor, op. 93.”

The news comes after Barenboim announced he was taking a step back from performing due to a neurological condition that was diagnosed. He said, “It is with a combination of pride and sadness that I announce today that I am taking a step back from some of my performing activities, especially conducting engagements, for the coming months.”
