The Staatsoper Stuttgart has announced that it will cancel all performances until Jan. 31, 2021.

Following a joint decision by the German federal government and the Prime Ministers of the federal states, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts has concluded that the uncertain duration of the existing partial lockdown poses too great a challenge for the Staatsoper Stuttgart, which is why the opera house had to opt for a long-term and a relatively predictable solution.

The Staatsoper Stuttgart has informed the public that it will provide additional information about scheduling starting February 2021 on Dec. 8, 2020.

The news comes a day after Germany extended its current lockdown until Dec. 20. The country is seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases reporting more than 20,000 cases a day.
