Staatsoper Hannover has announced that the company will remain closed until at least Feb. 28, 2021.

“After consulting the supervisory board of the Niedersächsische Staatstheater GmbH and the responsible ministries, we have canceled all performances and special programs at all venues up to and including Feb. 28, 2021,” says a statement on the company’s website. The opera house added that it would inform spectators in due time about the possible resumption of performances.

Streams from recent live performances of Bizet’s opera “Carmen” and Handel’s oratorio “Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno” are still available on the OperaVision platform.

The German government and Prime Ministers of German federal states have extended the national lockdown until the end of January 2021. Germany is still logging a high number of daily COVID-19 infections, with 45,333 new cases on Jan. 7, 2021.
