Staatsoper Hannover Cancels 2022 Opera Ball

By Dejan Vukosavljevic

The Staatsoper Hannover has announced the cancelation of its Opera Ball, which was originally set to be held on Feb 18 & 19, 2022.

According to current rules in Germany to contain the spread of COVID-19, an event with more than 2,000 guests is not allowed, especially since nobody knows yet which rules will apply in February.

“Due to the extensive planning and agreements with partners, it would be irresponsible to everyone to continue planning faced with so much uncertainty. In addition, we have to avoid unnecessary costs,” said Intendant of the Staatsoper Hannover Laura Berman.

“The decision to cancel is no fun for any of us, but we don’t have any other option. We would like to thank all sponsors and partners for their unreserved support and understanding and we are already looking forward to welcoming you all to the next Opera Ball, which will take place on February 17 and 18, 2023,” added the commercial director Jürgen Braasch.

The seven-day incidence in Germany currently stands at 375.
