Staatsoper Hamburg Announces Cast Change for ‘Manon Lescaut’

The Staatsoper Hamburg has announced a cast change for its final performance of “Manon Lescaut.”

The company noted that Kristine Opolais will take over the title role for Sonya Yoncheva.

The Latvian soprano will join a cast that includes Brian Jagde, Kartal Karagedik, Tigran Martirossian, Daniel Kluge, Chao Deng, Gabriele Rossmanith, and Seungwoo Simon Yang. Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducts.

Opolais is well-known for her interpretation of “Manon Lescaut” having performed the role at the Bayerische Staatsoper,  Metropolitan Opera, and Royal Opera House. The soprano is also a renowned Puccini interpreter, having also performed the leading roles in “Madama Butterfly,” “Tosca,” and “La Bohème.”  This season the soprano is set to take on the title role of “Adriana Lecouvreur” at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and “Tosca” at the Theater an der Wien.
