Staatsoper Berlin Announces Conductor Change For ‘Die Zauberflöte’

By Francisco Salazar

Alondra de la Parra has bowed out of the upcoming revival of “Die Zauberflöte” at the Staatsoper Berlin. As a result, Julien Salemkour will conduct the production by Yuval Sharon.

Salemkour was the assistant of Daniel Barenboim from 2000–2012 receiving the title Staatskapellmeister in recognition of his services to the Staatsoper Berlin. Since then he has become an active guest-conductor specializing in opera. He has conducted at the Teatro Colón, Oper Graz and RSB Orchestra Berlin, among others. He is set to conduct “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at the Staatsoper Berlin in January.

De La Parra next conducts the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and is also set to conduct “Sleeping Beauty” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

“Die Zauberflöte” opens on Nov. 28 and will star René Pape, Julian Prégardien, Serena Sáenz, and Albina Shagimuratova.
