By David Salazar

The Soweto Gospel Choir is set to perform at the Soraya in Los Angeles on Oct. 29, 2022 for “HOPE – It’s Been a Long Time Coming, Songs from the Great African and American Struggle.”

The program, which honors artists struggling for social justice in the U.S. and South Africa, will feature music by Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Mahalia Jackson, and traditional African gospel music.

The Soweto Gospel Choir was formed in 2003 and performed on numerous occasions for Nelson Mandela, including at his state funeral and the subsequent commemorative service at Westminster Abbey. The organization also performed at the funeral service for his late wife Winnie Mandela.

The performance is set to kick off at 3 p.m. local time.
