Soundstreams will present the North American premiere of Sir James MacMillan’s new oratorio “Angels Unawares” on Feb. 27, 2027 at 7:30 p.m. at Metropolitan United Church in Toronto.

MacMillan will conduct the performance himself, leading Ensemble Soundstreams and Soundstreams Choir 21.

The title draws on a biblical phrase invoking the possibility that angels move among us unrecognized — a call, in MacMillan’s framing, to treat all individuals with dignity and compassion.

The evening will also feature the premieres of six short works by emerging composers from Soundstreams’ Bridges program, each of whom was mentored by MacMillan as part of the initiative.
